“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” - News

After being postponed several times, the movie “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will finally hit theatres on November 18th.

This new chapter of this beloved series will be the sequel to the previous two films directed by Ivan Reitman; his son, Jason Reitman, is the director of this paranormal comedy.

The plot introduces us to new characters: a single mother and her two children, who are forced to move to their deceased grandfather’s farm in Oklahoma once inherited. When a series of earthquakes suddenly begin to occur the two kids, along with new friends, will find themselves having to fight against monsters and ghosts, using the historic and famous Ghostbusters equipment.

Also in the trailer we can enjoy a nice scene from the film starring the seismologist Mr.Grooberson, played by Paul Rudd (MCU Ant-Man), who runs into Stay Puft while shopping.

Fans of the “Ghostbusters” series certainly remember who it is as in the first film of the saga, when Ray (Dan Aykroyd) thinks of the cute mashmellows’ mascot, the Sumerian divinity Gozer (antagonist of the film) turns into his giant version; the four original Ghostbusters will the annihilate it by combining the power of their weapons.

There will be new actors in the cast, but old acquaintances will also return. Here’s who will be in it: Finn Wolfhard (star in Stranger Things), Paul Rudd, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts. The only one missing will be Harold Allen Ramis (Dr.Egon Spengler), who passed away in 2014, but who will still mentioned in the movie as he will be the deceased grandfather of the two young protagonists; can you hear the sound of our hearts breaking?

Just one question haunts our minds after watching the trailer: who will be the main villain in this movie? Will there really be the return of Gozer “The Destroyer”?

It seems so, as some clues in the trailer lead us to the Sumerian divinity; if you don’t believe us, here are some examples:

1-In the previous trailer we saw children meeting Shandor Mines, a reference to Shandor, the architect in charge of the building where Dana Barret, played by Sigourney Weaver, lived in the first film;

2-The Temple we see in the new trailer is filled with Gozer-related iconography, complete with a flat-topped Pyramid;

3-The mountain we see features a rotating demonic cloud similar to the one we know well, positioned above Central Park in the 1984 film, and the gorgeous skeletal ghost is clearly a miner who was released after being trapped in the Shandor mines for who knows how long.

To conclude the article with a flourish here is a little curiosity: in Italy the movie will be titled “Ghostbusters: Legacy”, referring to the fact that many of the new heroes are related to the old ones.
