Best Bands in the 20th Century
This band was formed in the 1970s. Its members were Freddie Mercury who was on the vocals and piano, Roger Taylor (Vocals and drums), John Deacon (vocals and Bass Guitar) and Brian May (vocals and Guitar). Queen is termed as the greatest band ever, and the Freddie is the best singer who made this band unique. Queen is the only band group that plays different music genres including gospel, opera, and hard rock.
The Beatles are an English iconic band as well. However, it started earlier than Queen (in 1960) in Liverpool. The members were Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Not long after the band was formed it became the most influential band of the 20th century. They started by playing the beat and 1950's rock and roll. Later on, they experimented with several genres ranging from Indian music to hard rock and psychedelia. They often incorporated classical elements in creative and innovative ways.
This was also an English band that was formed in London. It started in 1968. The band was made up of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. When they started, the band’s sound was heavy and guitar-driven. It was rooted in psychedelia and blues but later moved to heavy metal. Over the years, they became successful courtesy of their great albums including Led Zeppelin I, II, III, IV made in 1969, 1970 and 1971.
The band went under upon the demise of John Bonham in 1980. In the following years, they played in some reunions, but that was it. In history, this group is considered as one of the bestselling music band. Some sources have it that they sold more than 300 million records all over the world.
This was a Heavy Metal band that started in 1968 in Birmingham. The members of the band included John Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. This band became a big deal after their album Got Panned’ went mainstream. However, in 1978, Osbourne was replaced with Ronnie James Dio who played with the group and released two albums with them before he left in 1983. Osbourne rejoined the group in 1992.
Black Sabbath is famous as the godfather of Heavy Metal. Their last album was released in 2013. MTV ranked them as one of the greatest heavy metal band in history. They are also in the Toc and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame.
All the above bands were English. However, AC/DC is Australian. It was formed in 1973 by Angus Young and Malcolm Young. The two continued until Malcolm succumbed to illness in 2014. Most people refer to it as the blues-rock band or the hard rock band.
