      Metallica is one of the most well-known heavy metal bands of all time! Formed at the end of 1981, the beginnings of the band seen the members start off in Los Angeles, until they moved out to the legendary Bay Harbour in San Francisco. Metallica wouldn’t be the band they are today, if it wasn’t thanks to Lars Ulrich. Ulrich was on the look out for new musicians to make music together, and after he posted an ad in the local newspaper, James Hetfield and bassist Ron McGovney reached out in a quest to gain a new drummer. After initially going separate ways, they finally came back together and Metallica was formed!

      Metallica albums

      By 1982, Metallica has released their first tapes under the names of ‘Power Metal’ and ‘No Life ‘Til Leather’. Later on this year, there seemed to be trouble in paradise for the band, and disagreements started leading bassist McGovney to leave the band.

      Not long after the exist of McGovney from the band, Hetfield threw lead guitarist out of the band. This then left Hetfield and Ulrich on the search for their replacements and came across Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton.

      With the full band, the completion of their debut album; ‘Kill ‘Em All’ was in full swing. The album was regarded as the epitome of thrash metal and was a massive hit. Their second album ‘Ride The Lightening’ was also a great success and was followed by a European headlining tour which then followed by the album ‘Master of Puppets’ which gained gold certification.

      Unfortunately, in 1986 bass player Cliff Burton died in a tour bus accident on the way to Copenhagen. Despite this being a massive blow for the band, they continued and went on to bring out their fourth studio album ‘…And Justice for All’ one year later.

      Metallica’s fifth album, the ‘Black Album’ was released in August 1991 and was their most successful album being called the most successful metal album of all time.
