Sonic The Hedgehog The Movie Breaks Box Office Records!

So, the stats are in and since its release on the 14th of February the Sonic movie has made a killing at the box office. According to sources, The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has broken box office records for a video game adaption and has nearly made as much money in ten days as the entire box office run for Detective Pikachu! If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we suggest you go and watch!

Re-design of Sonic 

When the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog was released in 2019, fans were horrified by CGI’s Sonic’s human teeth and strange beady eyes. This led to paramount pushing back the movies release date and hired animator Tyson Hesse, art director for Sonic Mania Adventures to lead the redesign. This may have saved the Sonic the Hedgehog movie- animators went above and beyond to fix Sonics look and make him appear like his video game self.

The movie is an action comedy film based on the video game franchise made by Sega.  Directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. The voice of Sonic is by Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey stars as Doctor Robotnik.

What happens in the film?

The film focuses on Sonic a blue hedgehog who can run at supersonic high speeds, who finds himself wanted by a tribe of enchidnas for his power. His guardian, Longclaw the Owl gives Sonic a bag of rings that can create portals to other planets. Sonic uses one of these to send him to Earth, whilst the Owl sets out to protect him from the echidnas. Ten years later, Sonic is living a secret life near the town of Green Hills, Montana but find himself feeling lonely and soon meet the local Sherif Tom Wachowski. Sonic tries to navigate the complexities of life on Earth with his new found best friend Tom. They soon team up to prevent the evil Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his powers for world domination!

Sonic is a video game character first and foremost, and the good thing about this movie is it never forgets that. The fight scenes, where Sonic’s speedy powers are put to the test are great as we get to watch the world from his supersonic high speed perspective.
